The 2006 Reading List
Lately my reading has been very haphazard and has left me feeling rather unproductive. Whatever happens, my tendency to start one book, get half-way done, and then start another must be put to death. This list is intended to bring some order into the madness.
One book at a time. Taking the time to fully “digest” what’s in the book. The goal here is to mix contemporary authors with some spiritual classics that I have been wanting to read for some time. The original thought was to stick with the current book (and only that book) until completion. I now see a slight problem in that this method will greatly slow me down. So the new rule will be that only one “theological” book at a time. This will allow me to read other books alongside them, namely some historical and fictional works that I’ve been eyeing. I think this is quite possible, it will just require me to be more focused and disciplined in my thinking. One other thing, I’ve decided that switching out books is also allowed but must be replaced with a similar book (i.e. a contemporary author for a contemporary author, a classic for a classic.)Hopefully having these guidelines written down (both here and on paper) will help me be more consistent.
